Drawing Conversion Process and Costs
Drawing conversion is a specialised activity and it involves special techniques, skill and experience.
Conversion of drawing formats and 2D to 3D drawings is largely a manual process. Drawing Format change requires special techniques, testing and quality assurance. 2D to 3D drawing demands further higher level of skills to be able to understand, interpret and re-do the drawing. While Format Change can be very cost effectively done in Australia, 2D to 3D is better recommended to be carried out in overseas locations such as India. Due to very specialised nature of activity, we will be able provide pricing after evaluating work. This may range from $A100 to $A3000 per drawing. Overseas processing is effective in cutting the costs up to 40% when more than 1000 drawings are processed in one go. This is because often overseas processing means hiring best of facilities due to confidentiality and security reasons and fact that QA is still done locally, before delivery.
Conversion or Copying of Paper Drawings involves first scanning a drawing and then carrying out next stage of activities.
Basic Scanning - The first stage scanning is done on Large Format Scanners that scan and save the image in digital format. This image however is not intelligent and CAD software such as AutoCAD cannot differentiate one line to another. They see it as a picture. Basic Scanning costs between $11 -15 Per Drawing and cost reduces for large volumes. For this, drawings need be sent to us and we will courier them back. Courier Charges start from $14. For large no. of jobs or those requiring highly secure handling, this can be done 'on-site' or at 'Customer Premises'. In this case however, extra charges apply and this can be negotiated.
Basic Scanning is a very good method of preserving old drawings that requires no further modifications. It saves storage space at premium locations while making the drawings available to everyone.
Basic Digitisation - Basic digitisation means scanning the drawing and digitising it so that it becomes readable by programs such as AutoCAD. It has limited clarity but still useful for many basic CAD purposes. Basic digitisation is popular where the drawings are not very old and requires minor modifications. Basic digitisation costs between $120-$150, depending upon complexity of a drawing. Typically the price hovers around $120 mark. Once again, courier costs to send the drawings back are extra. Basic digitisation is done in our facility.
Complete CAD Digitised Drawing - A complete CAD digitised drawing means converting a paper drawing to an AutoCAD or any other CAD System file. This follows organisational drawing standards. This is a manual process and requires lots of preparation and Quality Assurance. This may cost between $150 to $3000 per drawing depending upon complexity. We recommend this only when there is enough volume because otherwise, it is better to hire extra resources to carry the task in-house. Once again, overseas processing may cut the costs by up to 40% when more than 1000 drawings are to be processed in one go.
