Going Places was developed at the initiative of City of Darebin and it implements a sustainable travel strategy across an enterprise, be it a city council, a mega-corporate, government, a large bank or business. This highly successful program encourages people to become active environment loving participants by offering recognition and reward to them. It operates over the entire enterprise by bringing in various businesses and departments together who pool in to offer rewards and incentives to those who pledge.

The program provides participating enterprises with a dashboard giving statistics of the program performance to charge participants to walk steps further.

How does it work for Participants?

The pledge: Often the participants start by registering into the program and committing to fulfil their pledge "I pledge to make two less drive-alone trips this week".

Fulfilling the Pledge and accumulating Reward Points: To fulfil the pledge, participants substitute two trips that they normally make by car with a walking, cycling, public transport or carpool trip. They enter this as per their convenience, from every day to once in a fortnight. Each green trip made and entered gets the participants a point each.

Receiving the Reward: Once the participants reach the rewards limit, they and the Program Manager is notified. The Program Manager now rewards the participants by various prizes, often instituted by the workplace, its trading partners and places around such as Cafes, eateries, drycleaners who see it as a good way to advertise and get new customers.

The advantages to Participants: By participating, the participants actively contribute to reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and promotion of sustainable environment. They get to see their small contribution becoming much larger when the organisation is viewed as a whole. Participants also save on transportation costs, get on to a somewhat organised lifestyle and in the long term, they become environment friendly in almost all walks of life.

What all does the Program do?

The program collects data from the end users and collates it through to the top in an enterprise, city council, government or business. The program is easy way to obtain travel pattern within them. The rewards provide a point whereby the community comes to know other useful and connected members. This breeds bonhomie and mutual trust. It is easy to begin with initiative that over a period of time, makes the participants conscious about sustainability and we observe them becoming environment friendly in all walks of life.

The program provides users statistics on their individual contribution to environment and how they perform as a department, enterprise, group or community. The data is readily available on their user page and program site that encourages them to walk a step further..
